Rob Versloot – Chief Executive Officer
Rob Versloot joined the company in September 2008 as Regional Vice President. In July 2011, he became Executive Vice President and Member of the Executive Board. The Board of Directors appointed him to Group CEO in September 2012.
Before joining Hero, Versloot worked for Royal Numico / Danone. He held various commercial and marketing leadership roles for the company in The Netherlands, Brazil, Indonesia and Russia. Dr Karsten Boyens – Chief Financial Officer
Karsten Boyens joined the Hero Group as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in April 2016. He brings with him a wealth of experience in the financial field and consulting, previously working for the Beiersdorf Group and McKinsey & Company. His responsibilities include Finance & Controlling, Tax & Treasury, Legal & Compliance as well as IT.
He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in Koblenz and a PhD from the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel (Germany). Find out more about Dr Boyens from his LinkedIn profile.
Markus Lenke – Chief Operations Officer
Markus Lenke joined our German subsidiary Schwartauer Werke in December 1993. He held different Commercial and GM positions within the company and was appointed to Regional Vice President in July 2010. He has been a member of the Executive Board since 2011. During his long career with the Hero Group, Lenke held various positions in sales and marketing functions, among others. He was also General Manager for both Schwartauer Werke and Semper in the Nordics.

Witte van Cappellen – Chief Supply Chain Officer
Witte van Cappellen joined the Hero Group in 2000 as Director Operations before taking over as General Manager of Hero Netherlands and subsequently Hero Benelux. In 2009, he assumed the role of Head of Semper AB and was appointed as Cluster General Manager Northern Europe, which includes the Hero business for the Nordics and Organix UK, in 2015. Van Cappellen took over the role of CMO before moving to his current position as CSCO, where he is responsible for the Hero Group Supply Chain and Procurement functions.
His previous career path saw him take on a number of senior roles in supply chain and operations functions for Royal Numico in the Benelux region, Poland and the UK. Van Cappellen obtained his Master’s in Business Administration from the NIMBAS Graduate School of Management in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Get more information on LinkedIn.
Christian Schierbaum - Chief Marketing Officer
Christian Schierbaum was appointed Chief Marketing Officer at the Hero Group in September 2019. He has an extensive professional background in the FMCG industry. Christian has worked in various marketing, sales and business leadership roles on global, regional and local level in industry leading companies, such as Wella, Reckitt Benckiser and Mondelēz. He joined the Hero Group from Mondelēz, where most recently he held the positions of President Marketing Europe and President Gum & Candy Europe.

Bill Parker – Chief People Officer
Bill Parker (not in picture) joined the Hero Group in April 2016 as VP HR & Corporate Communications and was appointed CPO in September 2020. As a senior HR leader, he has spent the last 25 years building a broad HR experience across a number of industries, including financial services, consulting, FMCG, and retail. Parker’s career path saw he take on roles at Bata & AW Lab, Unilever, and Mars Inc. in different geographies around the world. See his LinkedIn profile here.
Board of Directors
The key focus areas of our Board of Directors are to determine the strategic direction of the company, to appoint the members of the Executive Board, and oversee the implementation of key business decisions.
Dr Arend Oetker, who owns the majority stake in Hero, is our Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors, which is composed of five members: Dr Hasso Kaempfe (Chairman), Herbert J. Scheidt (Vice Chairman), Giovanni Ciserani, Dr Hagen Duenbostel, and Leopold Oetker.
Dr Arend Oetker – Owner & Honorary Chairman
After studying Business Administration and Political Sciences at the Universities of Hamburg, Berlin, and Cologne from 1962 – 1966, and Marketing at the Harvard Business School in 1966, Dr Oetker earned his doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Cologne in 1967.
Dr Oetker is also shareholder and Vice Chairman of KWS Saat SE (plant breeding) and chairman of Cognos AG (education).
He is Chairman of the German Council for Foreign Relations e.V. (DGAP), Honorary Member of the Presidential Board of the Federation of German Industries e.V. (BDI), and Member of the Presidential Board of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA).
Giovanni Ciserani – Chairman
Verona-born Giovanni Ciserani worked his way up the ranks at P&G to become one of the company’s top executives. Educated at the prestigious Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, Ciserani spent his entire career at P&G, where he worked for more than 30 years. He retired from the position of Sector Group President Global Fabric and Home Care, Global Baby and Feminine Care at P&G in November 2018.
Ciserani, who is based in Switzerland, joined the Hero Group Board of Directors in 2017. He took over the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors in March 2019 from Dr Hasso Kaempfe who had held the position since January 2013. Ciserani’s position as Chairman was approved during the company's General Assembly in March 2019. Ciserani is also Chairman of the Hero Group Human Resources Committee.
Herbert J. Scheidt – Hero Board Member since 2010, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Vontobel Bank
Herbert J. Scheidt is Vice-Chairman of the Hero Group Board of Directors, and also holds the chairmanship of the Group’s Finance and Audit Committee and is a member of the Human Resources Committee.
He has been Chairman of the Vontobel Board of Directors since 2011, before which he served as the bank’s CEO. Prior to that, he worked for Deutsche Bank AG in various roles for two decades from 1982 culminating with his appointment as CEO of Deutsche Bank (Schweiz) AG in 2001.
Scheidt holds a Master’s in Economics from the University of Sussex (UK) and an MBA from the University of New York.
In addition to the Hero Group, Scheidt is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Bankers’ Association (Basel), Member of the Board of Directors of the SIX Group (Zürich), Member of the Board of Directors of Economiesuisse (Zürich), and Member of the Board of European Banking Federation (Brussels).
Dr Hagen Duenbostel – Hero Board Member since 2011 – Executive Board Member of KWS Saat AG, Germany
Dr Hagen Duenbostel is a member of both the Hero Finance & Audit Committee and a guest at the Human Resources Committee. He is currently CEO and Executive Board Member of KWS Saat SE, a provider of agricultural seed, based in Einbeck, Germany. He has been with the company since 1998 in various capacities, CFO of KWS, and latterly responsible for the Corn Division and Corporate Marketing. He began his professional career in auditing at PricewaterhouseCoopers AG in 1995.
Dr Duenbostel holds an MBA from the universities of Regensburg and Passau in Germany and obtained his doctorate from the University of Göttingen, Germany.
In addition to his board position with Hero, Dr Duenbostel was on the Supervisory Board of Sievert AG, the Food and Agribusiness Council, Osnabrück and the Eastern European Economic Relations Committee, Berlin as Chairman of the Food and Agribusiness.
Dr Hasso Kaempfe – Hero Board Member since 2012
Dr Hasso Kaempfe has been a member of the Board of Directors for Hero since the beginning of 2012. A year later, in January 2013, he took over the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors, succeeding Dr Arend Oetker. He remained in this post until March 2019, stepping down shortly before his 70th birthday as prescribed by the company regulations.
Dr Kaempfe is a member of the Hero Group Human Resources Committee.
He was the long-standing Executive Chairman of Mast-Jägermeister AG in Wolfenbüttel and before that Board Member at Tchibo GmbH, as well as a lawyer in Hamburg. Since 2007, Dr Kaempfe has taken mandates as Chairman or Board Member for a number of medium-sized family concerns. Furthermore, he is Senior Advisor for various consultancy and private equity companies and Vice Chairman of the Board of the German Brands Association in Berlin. Dr Kaempfe holds a Doctorate in law from the University of Marburg and was admitted to the bar of the Hamburg law courts.
Leopold Oetker – Hero Board Member since 2016
Leopold Oetker successfully completed his studies in Culture Studies and History in Berlin and Copenhagen.
Oetker undertook a two-year international business development traineeship at the Hero Group’s former partner Yildiz Holding, and worked at the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts. He is also involved in charitable work, helping underprivileged children in his hometown Berlin.
He joined the Hero Board of Directors in 2016.
Margaret Versteden – Hero Board Member since 2019
Margaret Versteden joined the Hero Board of Directors in March 2019. Versteden has a bachelor in business systems (IT) from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and an MBA from INSEAD, France.
She is currently the Chief Commercial Officer of Bol.com, the leading retail platform of the Netherlands and Belgium, responsible for both the commercial and innovation activities of the Platform. versteden joined bol.com from Bain & Company, where she was a managing partner, specializing in FMCG, retail and e-commerce.
Prior to this, Versteden also worked at Nike as General Manager for Central and Northern Europe and as strategy consultant at BCG for 10 years in Australia, South East Asia and Europe.
